I photograph a lot of destination weddings - weddings where the destination is right here… for me it’s my very own doorstep, but for the couples who’ve travelled from across the world - they’re here in the romantic rolling landscape of Scotland in Summer. And this Summer hasn’t disappointed - on one of the hottest days of the year Emma and Eric (all the way from Texas) were married in the astonishing setting of Argrennan Manor House.
There are two things I love about a small, intimate wedding - firstly, there’s always plenty of time for photographs, and secondly, among a small party of guests there’s no hiding - it’s inescapable that I’m part of the wedding. Large weddings create an easy anonymity - it’s normal to blend into the background and become an unseen element - but in a small group there’s a completely different feeling - my presence is clear and feel welcomed into the party - a little like an honorary guest.
These weddings always leave something with me after they’re over - this is after all how I spend my Summer - each weekend. I often I feel on the fringes of the day skirting around the edges - it’s the perfect place to capture wonderful candid moments in photographs. But every so often it’s a very special feeling to be an actual part of the day, being a small part of the story and then this wonderful job stops being work, and becomes something much more significant, something I value and hang on to - remember fondly back on and cherish forward into the future.
Emma and Eric it was a wonderful privilege to share your day in the beautiful Scottish Summer.
