The first few weddings of the year - emerging from Winter into the delightful freshness of Spring... it's such a boost creatively and psychologically - it's awesome to shooting again after a Winter hiatus. And what a start to the year!
Gemma, Kris and I met a month before their wedding at the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens... on a windy ( WINDY ! ) day... so windy in fact that the gardens had to be closed to the public, and not even my wily powers of persuasion could get us past the Botanics staff (quite rightly - they had our best interests in mind - no-one wants branches falling on them a month before their wedding). So close - and yet the gardens evaded us, so we returned a few days before the wedding, scoped and walked, timed walking, found routes, locations, and possibilities for photographs galore... this really is a beautiful wedding venue.
There was so much scope in fact that we were spoiled for choice, but the romance of the Victorian glasshouse with it's majestic palms, soft light and welcome warmth drew us into a world of colour, texture and tropical lushness. The weather ... (!) ... at times challenging, eased for just long enough for some awesome portraits around the grounds. And I'm so pleased with the mix of story-telling documentary images of lovely moments and intimate couple shots that we managed to capture - thanks Gemma and Kris it was an unforgettable day!
